Greatings from Los Angeles. This week's show I'm really lucky to have a guest mix from Frederic Soulable who brings a tasty selection of soul, funk and downtempo goodness to your ears. But first up I'm dropping a few new tracks from Ghostpoet & Jame Blake who combined will have two of the top ten albums of 2011 for sure. Then it's some oldies with Koop (sounding fresh right next to James Blake), Henry Mancini, Jamiroquai and Courtney Pine with the classic "I've known rivers." Sit back and enjoy the great selection from Frederic and dig around for his other mixes at the Soulable HQ. Enjoy and in the next couple of weeks I'll drop the second half to Frederic's mix which is more in the uptempo territory. PJL Intro

This is not exactly a Valentine's edition but I do have a few smooth as you like tunes to kick things off and we have a great new track from UniverSouLove & The Hedonist that has tons of Valentine vibes oozing out. So this week I have some soul to get things rolling with King Britt and Linda Crawford. Sandwiched in between is an unreleased track from Umod a.k.a. Domu, I'll be playing a lot more of this unreleased Domu stuff over the next few weeks. I'm going back to some serious Jazz-Funk roots with Snowblower and then something new to me, Dizzy Gillespie & Lalo Schifrin dropping some great stuff together, what a combo. Lots of African and South America vibes this week with Baloji from Congo, Ahmed Fofana from Mali and much more. Enjoy. PJL Intro

Vice is back with his first show of 2011, and it's definitely worth the wait! A little while back Vice managed to catch up with the refreshingly different Akala, who's intelligent and logical thoughts have continued to keep his music relevant and unique. With accomplishments including winning a MOBO award in 2006, working alongside thespian veteran Sir Ian Mcellan and most importantly staying completely true to his morale values and inspirations, Akala's music is not to be slept on! 1. It's finally here. December 2010 means its time to rewind the past 12 months and dig up all the great music that has made 2010 a bumper year for quality music. Right now I think it's going to be three mixes but I don't know the number of track I have left to spotlight is huge and three may not do it but we shall see hopefully I can edit myself down a bit. This first section crosses all genres and the one defining aspect for 2010 seems to be the orchestral sound. Check out Janelle Monae, Arcade Fire, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Quantic etc the list goes on. There are going to be a few end of 2009 tracks creeping in here just cause I didn't get to some of these till the beginning of the year and couldn't include in last year's rewind podcasts. Enjoy and look out for the next few weeks as we wrap up the year in good music 2010. Listen right above, head to the MixCloud page, subscribe to the new iTunes podcast here or download it here. I'm squeezing one more in before the end of October! Bringing the eclectic sounds this week from PJL HQ in Los Angeles with as usual jazz of course with Art Farmer, Gene Russell as well as new discovery for me, The Monkeynuts. I have some great soul/funk from Uptown Funk Empire and Band of Horses covering Cee-Lo before diving into some more ambient territory with Nathalie Tanner from Italy then Nick Rosen and Carlos Nino from LA. Enjoy the vibes and check back next month for more PJL sounds on Basement Sessions. The Monkeynuts - elle réchauffe mon âme

Made this mix last week after getting back from a truly amazing show by Phoenix and you'll see there are a couple of their tracks this week. Mixed in with that is a good deal of jazz and soul music. It's quite eclectic (although isn't it always?) with some reggae sounds and indie rock runnings as well. Enjoy. The Natural Spiritual Orchestra - Malcolm And Martin
